Title: Belle Epoque
Paper doll
Size: 35x27x25cm
'My paper sculptures are derived from fantasy and are an exploration of the possibilties of paper and the ways it can be used in art. The core is made from recyclable materials (like milk cartons, paper bags from supermarket, pieces of aluminum packaging) and then they are carefully covered with many layers of hand-dyed papers, to form a unique and OOAK art sculpture.
'Belle Epoque' is an art doll inspired by the 1770s, Marie Antoinette and the intricate dresses women used to wear at the time. I had a deep deep wonder regarding what she should be holding. Most references I found of Marie Antoinette herself, depicted her holding a flower or a fan. And then I came across a favorite painting of mine, of Madame de Pompadour, in which she’s holding a book. That was it. I printed a miniature book reference that I found online, cut and glued the pieces together and made a little book cover with a piece of carton from a tissue box.
There are no rules in creativity or art, and what you can create with a few materials and a lot of love. The sky is the limit!'
