"In this painting I wanted to explore the theme of temptation and fatal promises that is found in fairy tales such as Rumpelstiltskin or Rapunzel: In times of need, mystical creatures sometimes offer their help in return for something most precious, often a living soul. Blinded by greed or misery, the human protagonists accept, but come to deeply regret their promise once they must fulfil their part of the bargain.
