"Pookila" by Rachel Favelle
Size: 3.9 x 3.1 x 2.5 inches
Medium: Ceramic Stoneware Wallhanging
The New Holland Mouse (Psedomys novaehollandiae) also known as Pookila is a species of rodent that was named by George Waterhouse in 1834. In 2021 it was listed as a vulnerable species due to their decline in numbers. This decline has been largely due to the destruction of their habitat for land development. In addition to land clearing, invasive weeds and Cinnamon Fungus have been growing in their environment. This Cinnamon Fungus emits a pathogen which alters the fauna which they rely on for food.
