Martina Mars - Esmeralda

She was born in September 1989 and raised in a small town surrounded by mountains in Northern Italy. At a young age she became fascinated with drawings, and her obsession for the sense of nature, animals and human figure led her to pursue an artist education. She graduated with an Illustration degrees at International School of Comics in Turin in 2012, and after seven years of work as a social and fiscal assistant, at the end of 2017, she decided to follow her creative path and dedicate herself completely to art. She experienced lots of different media through the years, but found her final and best tool of expression in pencil, a simple weapon but able to strongly describe her feelings and her deepest thoughts. She usually works with graphite, and she loves to create portrait inspired by people she observes in everyday life; each one, secretly, tell something of their own stories, even with a blink of an eye, a gesture or a smile. Her art focuses on figurative and Lowbrow, that gently influenced her works, giving dreamy and peculiar tones to her pencil realism. 

Martina Mars's characters come to life from delicate and controlled black and white shades on Moleskine paper; her illustrations are vivid rendition of both, darkness and light of human beings, with detailed faces and symbolism which delve into the imperfections of natural beauty. 

With her empathetic personality and her use of graphite, she wants to evoke unseen and unspoken emotions that flow from her characters to the observer, because there's nothing more beautiful and cruel, then our truths in the eyes of a stranger.
