Title: Tears for Teddy
Size: 5.75” x 5.75”
Medium: Oil on Canvas, resin
A lacrimatory or lacrymarium is a vessel found in ancient Roman tombs and it is thought to have also been used by some Victorian Era mourners to collect tears. The decorative bottles were buried with the body or given as a gift to symbolize the grief and respect one felt for the deceased. In this piece, a little girl is grieving the loss of her teddy, and with it, the loss of childhood innocence. The ornate frame is embellished with hand set jewels and a vial of resin tears adorned with tiny hand painted charms of her beloved bear.
