The conflict between humans, forest animals and spirit gods is a central theme in Studio Ghibli’s animation Princess Mononoke.
WOLF MOON is trying to reconnect what seems to be falling apart in our modern society and portrays a deep longing for a harmonious relation with the natural world by remembering the ancient practice of naming full moons.
The names given to each full moon often reflect seasonal changes and natural phenomena during the different months of the year.
January’s Full Moon is named Wolf Moon since during the long, dark winter months when food is scarce, wolves were likely to be heard howling more frequently.
The full moon names helped to track the months and seasons and also establish a connection between celestial events and cyclical phenomenas on Earth, fostering a deeper understanding for the natural world.
