If I had to point out the aspect that I think is remarkable in Studio Ghibli's films, in all of them, regardless of the director, it would be the moments of pause in which the characters stop to observe, discreetly offering us time and space to enjoy ourselves together. The settings, the landscapes, the moments of introspection, the preparation and tasting of meals, everything was designed to facilitate the sharing of emotions. A gift to the viewer.
Spirited Away, Spirited Away, was my choice, as a tribute to this care in sharing moments of serenity and beauty, for the richness of all the scenes in the bathhouse, but, fundamentally, for the color of the skies, the dynamics in the Kamaji's furnace, the tearing of water through the train, the paper daggers that chase Haku, the strange lamp that welcomes Chihiro and Kaonashi to show the way... but the pink gold skies, sunset or sunrise, it doesn't matter, the light varies between pinks and oranges, touching translucent violets, beautiful! Ghibli's magical skies...
So I made a sky where nothing is static, there is color and movement and I hope I was able to leave enough empty space and stillness to invite you to take a moment to pause and imagine.
